Finally, something appetizing

Of course, right after I mention not wanting to eat or cook, I stumbled upon this recipe. And it looked great and didn't make me nauseous.

So, we hopped on over to Trader Joe's (which happens to be Sharks' favorite place - the mini grocery carts, free balloons, and the jelly beans I let him buy on the way out just might be the reason) and bought the ingredients and made this for dinner tonight.

Well worth the effort. Plus I am pretty sure it is the only way I'll be getting any wine for the next little bit.

Free Food @ KFC

Ok, so I don't think I've eaten at KFC in my life, but since Oprah is giving away free meals, I figure I might give it a try.

Follow this link to print off your own coupons. I think you can only print them off until tomorrow, but you have 2 weeks to use them after that.

Hot Cross Buns

Let me tell you about my first experience making Hot Cross Buns.

Our smoke detector went off. In my defense, it is sensitive. Unfortunately, so is my firstborn. He went screaming off to bed (of his own accord) just to escape the "bad noise."

So...where was I? Oh yes. Well. I got hot and cross and the buns got burned.

However.

Once I cut off the burned bottoms, they tasted wonderful. Yummy bread goodness with a touch of sweet.

Now I am off to clean up the disaster that is my kitchen.
(P.S. That picture is not of my buns. It's from the recipe site.)

Eat it. Please do.

One of the perks of being a stay-at-home mom has to be that I can make whatever I want for lunch each day. Today I was feeling the need for...crepes. With Nutella of course. (Not that I share the Nutella with Harkins. He gets crepes with peanut butter.)

Easy to make, even easier to eat ;) So here you go, from the Joy of Cooking.

Crepes

Combine and whisk until smooth:

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup lukewarm water
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
pinch of salt

Cover with plastic and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Place a nonstick frying pan over medium heat and coat with a little butter (don't really need butter if you've got a nonstick pan.) I use my smaller frying pan.

Pour about 2 tablespoons of batter into the pan, lifting the pan off the heat and tilting and rotating it so that the batter forms an even, very thin layer.

Cook until the top is set and the underside is golden.

Turn the crepe over, using a spatula or your fingers (I use both) and cook until the second side is lightly browned.

Remove the crepe and stack on a plate. Eat a lot of them, one after another. (Don't forget the Nutella. Or lemon juice and sugar.) Then take a nap. (I did.)
